Becoming and Emergency Communicator
Amateur radio operators provide invaluable communications services to the
community when the normal channels of communication have been disrupted.

How can you prepare yourself?
- Familiarize yourself with your radio equipment
- Program Net frequencies into your radios
- Volunteer for scheduled events like walkathons, races and parades
- Know how to set frequencies, offsets, and tones
- Be able to operate your equipment on DC power
- Develop a Go Kit
- Prepare your family. Family Preparedness is the #1 priority.
- Sharpen those skills
- Participate in the weekly ARES net
- Review and understand the Basic Emergency Communications Practices
- Review and understand the Controlled Net Guidelines
- Take an Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Course
